Budgets - do they carry?
I've recently started using 22seven and really like the budget idea. The thing is that a lot of budgets are basically set annually. E.g. I might have an "unplanned car repair" budget for the year for R20k that i might spend in January or only in October or not at all. Now I can divide that R20k by 12 to get the effective monthly budget amount, but how do I get that unspent amount each month to carry to the next month? This raises a second issue. If I've budgeted well enough that I have that R20k in a savings account already and am not busy saving up for it during the coming year, what would be the best way to deal with it in 22seven?

  • Hi Glen,

Thank you for reaching out :)

Unfortunately don't allow you to carry over budget amounts as things currently stand, but I will pass his feedback on to our product team as a suggestion.

22seven isn't really designed to fit your scenario, so I'd suggest you use you account balance to keep track of the total amount available to you and then to add any related expenses that may crop up as Exceptions. You can then manually set a budget amount to match your spend in that exceptions category for the month.

    I hope this helps

  • I suppose one could manually enter new budget amounts each month by adding budgets from a list of usual amounts elsewhere to the remainders of the previous month's budgets?

Yes, you are more than welcome to keep track of your budget using this method. We like to encourage our customers to use 22seven and data supplied in a way that makes the most sense to them.
