Manual transaction entries & accounts

Not all accounts link up (like the pension organised by my work), and some never will (like cash).

It would be useful to be able to enter transactions for these accounts to have a complete understanding of a financial situation.

  • The ability to support manual transactions has been outstanding for a long time. It seems as if other features always get priority. What determines the priority? How can we as a user community influence the priority?

  • Hi Wessel,

We sent an email survey out to all 22seven customers at the end of last year. We used this to prioritise our backlog of new features. This of course needed to be balanced with work we already started on, or had planned out. We're also in the process of rewriting each of our apps one by one to ensure they're optimised.

Needless to say, manual transactions are definitely on the cards and we're planning to get to them in the not too distant future :)

  • Hi Johan,

Thanks for sending through your comments!

Currently, you're able to create manual accounts for cash and other unsupported service providers. Simply scroll down to the bottom of the service provider list on the "Link an account" screen and select "+ Something you have or owe." You can select a custom account name and balance, as well as select one of our pre-designed icons. Unfortunately, you aren't able to add transactions to these accounts at this time, but this will at least allow you to account for major gaps in your 22seven net worth.

I'll be sure to pass your comments regarding transactions, specifically, on to our Product Design team for consideration. Please let us know if you have any other thoughts or suggestions :)

  • +1 on this feature. I really need this to manage my cash spending. I'm using a separate app just for this.

Another example, if I'm owing money from a family and paid it back, I'd like to set it as transfer and make sure my balance stays the same. Right now, amount received and spent in transfer category don't match due to the lack of this feature.

  • Hi Micheal,

I'm afraid we don't have anything to share in this regard yet. Moving forward, we're planning to introduce better cash management in 22seven, which will go a long way to solving frustrations such as these. However, we don't have any plans to implement the general ability to add manual transactions at this stage.

If there are any service providers you'd like us to add to the app in order to gather your data automatically, you're welcome to send your requests through to thesvens@22seven.com. We'll pass them along to our data team :)

  • In relation to have manual transactions and control over accounts such as cash, I keep aside money in my main for for a cushion fund.

In an app that I previously used, I could set it aside as a "separate" account. I can create a separate account but I cannot "transfer" the money into that separate account. This procedure should also keep the balance the same, similarly to what Hankyu Kim mentions.

  • Hi Kwansui,

Thanks for adding your thoughts to this discussion! Solving the issue of better accounting for cash is still on our radar, so I'll be sure to share your feedback with the rest of the team ;)

  • Not having the ability to add manual transactions really makes it pointless to include any funds (eg pension funds) where you cannot download transactions.  Similarly for Cash.   This is a huge problem....

  • Hi Henri,

Would you mind sharing some more detail on why you feel there's no benefit to adding the likes of pension funds to 22seven without the ability to manually add transactions? The idea behind adding pension funds and other investments is to accurately reflect your net worth.

Please feel free to share some more details and I'll be happy to pass these on to our Product Team.

  • I make annual payments to my retirement fund and get a quarterly statement reflecting interest received.  There is currently no way of capturing this and reflecting what my deposits were vs interest received over time.   I presume the only way I can reflect this is to modify the amount whenever something changes,  but that loses all the value of monitoring over time, and as another user indicates, you end up monitoring it separately.

It is similarly important to be able to capture large cash expenses (eg we pay our gardener in cash, and would like a record of it).

22seven is a brilliant app, but I keep ending up frustrated because it just falls short in terms of capturing manual transactions, which sets me off looking of other personal finance apps a la Microsoft Money all over again....

  • Any news on the adding of manual transactions I see it has been requested almost 2 years ago 22seven is great but it lacks the basic functionality of a money app.

  • Hi there Stefan,

Thanks so much for reaching out.

Whilst we are definitely still planning on making manual transactions and accounts more streamlined, our current focus has been on improving our existing features.

If you'd like, I can chat to the team when we are all back in the office and once I've done so, pop you an email with more detailed feedback?

    I hope this helps!

  • Hi I am also keen to manually add cash spends as they are part of my expenses each month and I would like to claim them for tax purposes. Hope this feature sees the light of day:-)

Also may be a helpful idea to order the comments newest first.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi ,

My new employer deducts my medical aid and RA before my salary is paid out. This means (that unlike with my previous employer) I can't track my medical spend and more importantly, I can't track what percentage of my income goes to investments. For this purpose I'd really like to be able to have a manual account to which I add manual income (the bulk amount pre-salary for medical aid and RA) and then individual outgoing transactions for the medical aid and RA.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

Thanks for reaching out. We're looking at introducing manual transactions in the future. We don't have an exact ETA just yet, but watch this space!

  • Hi

Is there any update on allowing Manual Transactions? or any integration with Discovery Bank?

Currently we are transferring our groceries and pharmacy money to Discovery to maximise cash back, but we cannot track this spending on 22seven.

Some feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

  • I assume your system is pulling in transactions in a bulk csv or json or similar format. Even exposing that functionality so we'd be able to prepare files like that and upload them manually would be really useful. Not having the ability to add manual transactions in any way at all is making 22seven less and less useful to me :(

  • Hi David & Matt,

There are no immediate updates on this. Please know that we are completely aware that this is an area that we're currently lacking in.

The ability to add manual transactions is on our roadmap. However, there is no ETA at the moment. There are quite a few improvements which we're working on that is taking priority, but we will get to adding manual transactions as soon as we can.
