Change budget to own amount instead of average

Hi there,

Is it possible to set a user defined value to the monthly budget instead of using the average calculated by the app?

Cheers

  • Hi Louis

There sure is. Just enter the amount you'd like to plan for in the average fields when you're in the Track view in Money Month. Easy peasy. Your planned amounts will carry over to your new money month automatically, so that you don't have to set up your plan from scratch every month. You can change your planned amount any time you like, or cancel it if you'd like to track against you average for that category again :)

  • I can't get this to work. I'm in the Track view in Money Month but I see no average field. Please explain.
This is terribly implemented (if the functionality even actually exists) and your help files are a bit useless in this regard (at least I couldn't find anything)

  • Hi Joel

Thanks for the feedback. Just to confirm, are you trying to do this on the Android app? Currently, the functionality to set planned amounts is only available on our web and iOS app. It's definitely coming to Android. Apologies for any confusion.

Our FAQ is a work in progress and we're continuously adding to it. How to's for Android and iOS are in the works :)

  • I'm doing it on the website.
I'm obviously missing something - either I'm being really dof (not unheard of)
or something is not right on the website.
I tried it on both Firefox and Chrome on Ubuntu Linux.

I'm not even sure where the average field is supposed to be? It displays the average at the end of the blue bar but this is not editable and clicking on the category shows all the transactions in a right hand panel, with an average box on top, but this isn't editable either. Also, on the left side of this page (when the right hand transactions panel is closed) is a column of 'Categories to watch' (or something like that) but I can't see how to add categories to this. I tried dragging and dropping but that didn't work.

  • Hi Joelus

Thanks for the feedback. Our service is currently very Flash heavy. As far as I'm aware, there are some Flash elements that don't work properly on Linux, like editing the average fields and dragging categories. We're currently moving away from Flash completely onto HTML. I'll check in with our tech team if your experience should improve once we've moved over. I'll be in touch as soon as I have feedback.

  • Hi Joelus

Just had a chat with our head of tech and our Flash guru. It seems you shouldn't be experiencing these issue in Chrome/ Firefox on Ubuntu Linux. At all.

I'd like to check a few things. Are you trying to edit the average fields in your current Money Months? In your current Money Month, clicking on the average total next to a category should open a editable field allowing you to set a planned amount.

Also, would you mind checking if you're on the latest version of Flash, Firefox and Chrome?

  • Hi André,

I discovered the confusion. It only works on the Current Month - I was looking at last month because my current month starts today and so has no data in it. You can only update this field on the current month, not previous months. This is really not obvious and seems a bit arbitrary. Also the help files are not helpful in this regard (or even existent?) and even here on the forum you only mentioned it had to be the current month in your last post.
Anyway, thanks for your assistance, I think you need to make this more obvious though

  • Hi Joelus

Glad we got to the bottom of it. 22seven is about changing the behaviour around your spending. You can't do much to change your behaviour for past months. That's why you can only set planned amounts in the current money month. On a side note: When you set planned amounts, they automatically carry over to the new money month, making it easier. You can edit planned amounts (in the current money month) any time you like, or cancel them if you'd like to track against your average again.

But, you're absolutely right. If this is not clear, then we need to make it clearer. The FAQ is pretty new and is a big step towards explaining 22seven better for first time users. We're continuously adding it to it, so that we'll cover all questions. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated.
